Million Dollar Horsepower
by Track Announcer Mike Bozich

The stars of harness racing in the state of Michigan will be out in full force this Saturday, Sept 23 at Hazel Park Raceway for the annual clash of the state's top 2 and 3 year old pacers and trotters. Million Dollar Night is back and better then ever, featuring nearly one million dollars in total purses for the night.

It will be a festive scene at Hazel Park this coming Saturday, featuring live music from one of Detroit's most popular bands Arizona Sun. The mouthwatering backyard barbecue will be in full effect as well, serving up delicious hamburgers, hot dogs, and sausages.

There will be eight action packed Million Dollar Night races and all should prove to be very competitive events. The 2 year old colt trot features standout Benn's Cowboy, who has already banked over $60,000 this year, which is nearly $40,000 more then any other horse in the race. The 2 year old filly trot maybe a different story, as two of the major players were knocked out elimination night. Elimination winner and virtual unknown Irene's Lucky Lady looks to duplicate her efforts in the final, but will have to deal with elimination two winner, the Keystone Nordic daughter Norena.

In the 2 year old colt division, Do Me a Favor continues to look impressive for owner/trainer/driver Keith Crawford. The 2 year old filly pace will pit Spartan stakes winner Princess Michi vs Elite winner Love Letters. Elimination disappointment Always A Plus will look to rebound. She is the current money leader in her class and figures to be better on Million Dollar Night.

The 3 year old Filly Trot division features Spartan and Futurity winner Head Cheerleader. She looked very impressive in her Elimination win last Friday night, and if that effort is duplicated she will be tough. The pacing event for 3 year old fillies includes standout Gina Raider, who looked impressive to say the least in her Elimination win. She will be challenged by Sweet Thunder, who has banked over $150,000 in her short 3 year old career.

In the 3 year old colt trot, Elite winner and Futurity runner up Emery Ho looks to leave his mark on Million Dollar Night. He will have to contend with elimination one winner Benn's Thunder, and Futurity winner Gale Warning.

In the much anticipated 3 year old colt pace, the Marie St Charles charge Action Figure will be the one to beat. He has banked over $150,000 in his career and won his elimination over a rejuvenated Multiple Choice. Action Figure's biggest rival throughout his career, Dark Blue will be in action as well, looking to avenge a disappointing fifth place finish in the eliminations.

The battle lines have been drawn and the stage has been set. Join us Saturday, September 23 at Hazel Park Raceway, as another chapter of the rich tradition in harness racing in the state of Michigan will be written. Post time 7:45.
